Ipko: No Time For Debate About Dispute Regulation

Source: Today SXM 07 Jan 2016 06:13 PM

St. Maarten News – The Inter-parliamentary Kingdom Consultation (Ipko) did not get around to a discussion about the dispute regulation yesterday. Due to time constraints, chairlady Sarah Wescot-Williams closed the meeting shortly after 4.30 p.m. to allow members of the Dutch delegation to meet unspecified commitments outside of the meeting.

St. Maarten. Curacao and Aruba have prepared a proposal for the dispute regulation during their tripartite meeting on Monday and it was presented yesterday also to the Dutch delegation. A meeting of the presidium that lasted longer than planned made it however impossible to begin the discussion about the proposal yesterday.

The dispute regulation is the first agenda point on the meeting that begins this morning at 9.30 a.m. at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort&Casino.

Yesterday morning the meeting began with a presentation by the census office about nationality research. As explained earlier, it has occurred that people who wanted to renew their passports fell through the cracks of the system due to administrative errors. This caused them to lose their nationality and make them, in fact, stateless.

After this presentation, the delegations paid a visit to the Princess Juliana International airport. The focus was on terrorism-related controls.
